We are looking for a highly motivated, results driven and flexible individual to build a career in the sawmill automation industry. We have a large customer base spread across four countries and are looking for individuals who enjoy working with customers onsite and remotely to provide technical support through implementation and on-going maintenance. When you join our talented team, you will be involved in developing automation software, testing hardware such as computer and scanning systems and going to customer sites for startup / commissioning of upgrades and new systems. You’ll start your time with us learning our work process and being trained on the hardware and software used by our customers. Once you’ve got that down, you will be involved in maintaining and advancing our optimizer and sorter software programs developed C++ using Microsoft Visual Studio. This software involves user interfaces, reports using SQL databases and interfacing into PLC systems. You may also be working with and developing PLC programs using ControlLogix.
We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, willing to learn and likes to improve and advance existing software.
Duties
- Provide support to the Ryken team on our existing optimizer and sorter software
- Aid in development, implementation, and maintenance of sorter and optimization software
- Assist customers over the phone after acquiring a working knowledge of our systems
- Travel up to 15% of the year (mostly in the United States and Canada) for startups and site visits
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a two-year technology diploma in computer systems or instrumentation (i.e., Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology)
- Minimum of 2 years programming experience working on industrial / automation process control systems.
- 3years’ experience in C++ development
- Knowledge of MFC and .NET
- Comprehensive MySQL / MS SQL experience
- Excellent TCP/IP knowledge
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows desktop Operating Systems, virtualization, and computer networking fundamentals
- Knowledge of industrial control system concepts and techniques, application source control, electrical systems, and computer network fundamentals
- Strong process documentation and reporting capabilities

- Physically fit to work in a sawmill environment
- Willing to travel
- Must currently be able to work in Canada
Nice to Have
- ASP .Net or other web-based design experience
- Experience with commissioning and startup, along with system troubleshooting and testing
- Sawmill or other industrial system experience
- Understanding of basic electronics and electrical systems
